Wild Boar Trail Run

 OVERVIEW
*Indulge in exploring the beautiful trails of MacRitchie Reservoir, Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Central Catchment & if you're lucky, you may spot Wild Boars roaming in the wild.

*How WILD are you:
- Wild 25km
- Very Wild 
45km
- Extremely Wild 70km (Combination of Wild 25km + Very Wild 45km) 

*Participants have 12 hours (elapsed time) to finish.

*All Finishers will be awarded with:
(A) A Finisher Tee (quick dry & light fabric)
(B) A Finisher Medal (large sized)
NOTE: 
- The Tee & Medal will be printed with the distance you completed.
You can opt for the Tee/Medal design WITHOUT the Wild Boar logo/text on it.  You can indicate your preference in the registration form.
- You can opt out of the Tee/Medal & the cost will be donated to charity.

*In addition, the Wild Boars have issued a Wild Boar Challenge, where participants who finish within the qualifying times indicated in the table below will earn the respective title of Legendary/Master/Apprentice Wild Boar & be inducted into the Wild Boar Hall of Fame:

ELIGIBLE ACTIVITIES
*Run/Walk/Hike on the predetermined route shown below. 
NOTE:
- Manual entries of activities & activities without route maps are not eligible.
- Use of any mode of transport/device/bicycle/etc are not permitted.  

ROUTE
The route maps are plotted with the Start & Finish at MacRitchie Reservoir but you can start at any point along the route (and finish at where you started) and must follow the direction as indicated/marked by arrows (yellow/green and orange) in the maps below.

- Participants must complete the route in 1 go within the maximum elapsed time of 12 hours to be considered a Finisher.

- A majority of the route is on trail.  Only a few sections are on the road, such as Rifle Range Road, Hindhede Drive, Bukit Timah Hill Summit Road & Chestnut Ave.

NOTE: The Dairy Farm Loop in Bukit Timah Hill remains closed since 24 Aug 2021 due to repair/construction work from the heavy rainfall.  Hence, 25km & 45km participants will need to complete 2 LOOPS of the Main Road-Summit Stairs-Summit Hut/Rock-Rengas Path-Dairy Farm Loop-Jungle Fall Path-Main Road section BEFORE heading down to Cave Path->South View Path->Taban Loop->Visitor Centre.  Please refer to the below map which shows the section at Bukit Timah Hill Summit area which participants need to do twice (marked in red/blue line/arrow).

*The 70km Extremely Wild route is a combination of both the 25km route AND the 45km route shown above.  Participants can decide which route they want to start with.

*The 70km is to be done on the same day, within 12 hours elapsed time.

*In the event if a 70km participant completes 1 of the routes but is unable to complete the other, he/she will be considered a finisher of the route that he/she completed.

Note on routes
- The above route maps are plotted with the Start & Finish at MacRitchie Reservoir.  However, participants can start at any point along the above predetermined route and MUST follow the route in the direction as indicated by yellow/green and orange arrows on the maps shown above.  Participants can make a detour to other locations outside of the route, but must return to the point they departed from the predetermined route & resume from there.

- Participants must go up to the Bukit Timah Hill Summit Hut/Rock level before continuing towards Rengas Path/Jungle Fall Path..

- On the activity day, you may need to make adjustments if you encounter any obstacle/obstruction which doesn't allow you to follow the predetermined route, such as construction/road work/road closure.  In such situations, you can make the necessary diversions to skirt around the obstacle/obstruction before getting back onto the original route to continue.  Please take a photo of the obstacle/obstruction as evidence and inform Ben.

- DO NOT USE paths/routes that are designated for Mountain Bikes only, such as in Chestnut Nature Park.  You will be disqualified if you use those paths/routes.

- Please study/analyse the route and/or ensure you are able to view the route map on your device BEFORE you start.  We highly recommend doing a recce of the route, especially at parts which you are not familiar with.  If you have never tested out the navigation features on your watch/phone/etc before, please try it out well in advance BEFORE your activity.

TIME LIMIT/RESTRICTIONS
- As we wish to encourage participants to take time to enjoy the beautiful trail & nature, the maximum time limit allowed is 12 hours (elapsed time) to complete any of the categories.  Elapsed time refers to the time taken from the Start until the time you Finish, including all rests/pauses/meals during your activity.  For example, if you start at 7am, you must finish by 7pm on that same day.

NOTE: Please DO NOT enter and/or remain inside the trails between 7pm to 7am as the trails are officially closed to the public during 7pm to 7am.  You may be fined by the Park Rangers if you are in the trails from 7pm to 7am.

TRACKING/VERIFICATION OF ACTIVITIES

*Strava (https://www.strava.com/) will be used as the primary means of verification of participants' activities.

- For those who do not have a Strava account, this is a free-to-join app which you can use it to record your activities OR sync with your activity tracking devices such as Garmin, Coros, Suunto, etc.

*In the registration form, you'll need to input your Strava Athlete Name & the URL link to your Strava profile (for example, the URL link to Ben Swee's Strava account is: https://www.strava.com/athletes/15096947). If you are unable to locate the URL link to your Strava profile, please 'follow' Ben Swee (Click HERE) & he will 'follow' you.
NOTE: If you're already following Ben Swee in his Strava, you can leave the URL field empty.  

*Please allow Ben Swee to 'follow' your Strava account and set your privacy settings to allow 'Followers' to view your activities so he can verify your activities.

*Activities will be randomly verified.  Activities, such as those with unbelievable pace/distance, no route map, will not be counted.

NOTE: For your convenience, you do not need to manually submit your activities/screenshots of your activities for verification.  Just inform Ben after you have completed and Ben will verify your activities via your Strava account.   

WILD BOAR TRAIL RUN CHALLENGE 

The Wild Boars have issued a Wild Boar Challenge, where participants who finish within the qualifying times indicated in the table below will earn the respective title of Legendary/Master/Apprentice Wild Boar & be inducted into the Wild Boar Hall of Fame:


**Optional Trophy**
Participants who have earned the title of Legendary/Master/Apprentice Wild Boar based on the qualifying elapsed times shown in the above Wild Boar Challenge table have the option of receiving a Trophy to recognise their achievement.  You can opt in/opt out of the Trophy in the event registration form.

NOTE: The elapsed time is based on a single continuous period from the Start of the activity, until the Finish, including all types of rest/pauses such as eating/drinking/naps/restroom/charging devices/shower/etc).  For example, if you are doing the 45km & you start at 7.00am on Saturday, you must complete the 45km route by 1.00pm on the same day to achieve the title of Apprentice Wild Boar.

*There is no limit on the number of attempts during the period of the event.  Only 1 Trophy/Title will be awarded, regardless of the number of attempts, and is based on the participant's fastest timing achieved by the end of the event period.

FINISH

*Please inform Ben (via WhatsApp/SMS or Email) after you have completed so he can verify your activities & send the e-certificate to you within approximately 48 hours.

SHIPPING OF ITEMS

*Shipping of items is free of charge for Singapore addresses.  

*As the event ends on 21 Aug 2022 & we will only order the event items after that, the items are targeted to be shipped out by mid Oct.

NOTE: If the shipping address you provided is wrong, we will not resend any replacement items and there will not be any refund of any amount.  Hence, please ensure you input the correct shipping address, postal code, email address and contact number in the registration form.

*For participants who qualified for the Wild Boar Challenge & have opted to receive the Trophy, we will arrange with you to hand deliver the Trophy together with the Finisher Tee/Medal.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

*By registering for the event, you fully agree to participate at your own risk & fully indemnify the organiser, Running Guild & Ben Swee, and its partners/sponsors against any claim(s), not limited to medical/monetary, for any health issue(s), injury, and/or death as a result of your participation.

*Please DO NOT enter and/or remain inside the trails between 7pm to 7am as the trails are officially closed to the public during 7pm to 7am.  

*Change of category is permitted up till the end of the event period. 

*Please abide by the COVID-19 rules & regulations.

*Exchange of T-Shirt size is subject to availability and shipping costs for the exchange are to be paid by the participant prior to the exchange.  Alternatively, the exchange can be done at the organiser's address.

*After payment of the registration fee, you acknowledge and accept that there will not be any refund to you, be it a partial or full amount.  In addition, there will not be any roll over of your entry to another event.  However, you can transfer your registration to another person before the start of the event's qualifying period by notifying the organiser at runningguild@gmail.com.

SAFETY

* Please ensure you are in good health before taking part.  We recommend you have a personal health/accident insurance policy.  

*Please take all necessary precautions before, during & after the activity, such as: medication, first aid/anti-blister kit, sufficient rest/sleep. 

*As the majority of the route is on the trail, there is a higher risk of sprain/fall due to uneven terrain such as rocks, mud, tree roots, etc.  Please be extra careful.  If you get injured and you require assistance, please ask passers-by to assist or use your mobile phone to call your contacts.  

*Do the activity together with someone if it is possible.  If you're heading out alone, please ensure you inform someone about your route, estimated duration & what time you expect to be back to home.  

*Bring along your mobile phone during the activity as it'll be useful in the event of an emergency.

*Bring a power bank & charging cable(s), if necessary, to charge your mobile phone/watch/etc.

*Hydrate & Fuel well before, during & after the activity.  There are toilets along the route with water coolers & vending machines where you can refill your hydration flasks/bottles/bladders or purchase drinks as shown in the below list, so please plan your refueling needs accordingly:

*DO NOT approach any Wild Boar you encounter.  Do not attempt to feed/touch them.  Stay clear of them.

*Stay alert & beware of danger along the route, e.g. pedestrians, vehicles, bicycles, motorised devices, potholes, dangerous animals/insects/plants, etc. 

*Please watch out/stay clear of oncoming vehicles, especially when you are on the road such as Rifle Range Road, Hindhede Drive, Chestnut Ave.  Cross only when it's safe to do so. 

*Wear bright/reflective apparel/socks/footwear/items so others are aware of your presence.

*Be prepared for severe/bad/hot weather/lightning/strong wind.  You may wish to bring a rain jacket/poncho & change of clothes.

*Have a good recovery after the activity, e.g. recovery drink/meal, massage, foam rolling, stretching.
